How to Treat Acne - March 2nd, 2011

Acne is unpredictable, so protecting your skin against these infections is a hard and overwhelming challenge.

Preventing acne completely is nearly impossible, so treating acne is the best method to get a clear complexion.

The following suggestions may seem strict however they are also easy to follow. Patience and persistence with your skin will eventually be rewarded with a flawless face.

Over-the-counter products can actually clear mild to moderate acne. Including these medications in your daily skincare routine will be beneficial.

This new routine is to be completed twice daily in the morning and at night.

Before you start, remember to be extremely gentle. Acne can be easily irritated, causing swelling and extra inflammation. Start by washing your hands first. Washing your hands removes dirt, oils, and bacteria that can cause more acne.

Splash your face with warm water. Hot water aggravates the skin. Please refrain from using facial scrubs. It is important to use soft soaps and gentle cleansers. Regular soap actually leaves residue on your skin that causes dryness and can clog pores.

Use a generous amount of cleanser and lather it in your hands, not on your face. Lathering the cleanser before application avoids irritation. After you apply the lather to your face, splash your face with warm water to rinse. Once the cleanser is gone, pat your face dry with a clean washcloth.

After your face is clean, use an acne treatment like benzoyl peroxide on your acne. Allow the benzoyl peroxide to absorb into the acne. Once the treatment is absorbed, apply moisturizer. Glide the moisturizer over your skin. Moisturizing keeps your skin hydrated, and help you avoids the dryness that can come from benzoyl peroxide.

As disheartening as it is to hear this, your skin needs to become accustomed to this new routine. There may be temporary adverse effects including redness and itchiness. However after several weeks, this regimen will be worth it. You will have healthier, and clearer skin when all is said and done.
